Learning New Technologies, Part 1

April 30, 2012

By Dennis Gomer

I have spent the last 40 years working as a technology specialist for companies such as IBM and Computer Consulting and Network Design, Inc. My love of technology spurred me into the field, where I spend a considerable amount of time outside of work learning about new technologies. If you are interested in a new technological breakthrough but do not know where to begin learning, follow my advice.

1. Search the Internet
These days, the Internet provides enthusiasts of any hobby and interest with more information than they could possibly digest in a lifetime. Rely on the Internet to answer your most burning questions related to a specific new technology. Load up Google, punch in a search term, and see what the renowned search engine has to offer.

2. Read Technology Websites
Several websites exist solely to keep readers informed on the latest trends and happenings in technology. ZDNet.com and CNET.com provide up-to-the-minute information on news, and several other sites cover specific areas of interest. Engadget.com, for example, employs a large roster of journalists who cover the latest gadgets.

3. Follow Technology Pioneers on Social Networking Sites
Your mother, friends, former teachers, and pets are not the only ones who use social networking sites. Plenty of technology experts post their latest experiments and findings, as well as links to articles they find informative. Search for these authorities on the social sites of your choice and follow them to keep up with their breakthroughs and thoughts.
